MEC LEHARI MEETS BLALDTO AND NORTH WEST SANTACO EXECUTIVE IN THE WAKE OF TAXI TENSION AROUND BRITS, CONSULTS AND CASCADES COVID 19 MESSAGE

MEC Mr Sello Lehari and MMC Machete of Madibeng Municipality met Brits Local and Long Distance Taxi Organisation (BLALDTO) after the department of Community Safety and Transport Management received a letter of complaints from BLALDTO.

The meeting noted an ongoing court process after BLALDTO had instituted such and the matter is being handled by Pretoria State Attorneys on behalf of government.

The department had earlier met attorneys representing BLALDTO and agreed to engage further with all affected taxi operators' association but due to pending court processes the engagement with BLALDTO can't proceed.

Mr Tlhwaele, BLALDTO Chairperson, indicated that the current stalemate and delayed in resolution of issues by the department has seen Gauteng Taxi operators conducting illegal taxi operations on North West routes.

"Let's agree to postpone the meeting until we get clarity of the status of court cases. Hartebeespoort Taxi Association and Top Six must also be convened. We will await their report." Said MEC Lehari, to which BLALDTO agreed.

MEC Lehari proceeded to engage with SANTACO. "As a department we are consulting you officially and formally as SANTACO North West regarding the envisaged establishment of the North West Provincial Public Transport Intervention Team or North West Provincial Taxi Monitoring Team. The structure has been agreed to in principle by the Minister of Transport". MEC indicated.

SANTACO Provincial Secretary and Training Officer had accompanied Mr Matsemela, SANTACO Deputy Chairperson in the consultation meeting.
